Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

claritasa review First time watching a Star Wars movie. Went in with an open mind even though ive always said i'll never watch star wars because it seems boring and too complicated for me. Pretty decent movie a little vague at times but scapington said its because its a prequel to the past movies. I did enjoy how you could see the dedication to the art of the movie. The costume design, makeuo, and set design looks really really nice. I thought this was a movie about luke skywalker because the little kid looked like him. But then I realized thats Darth Vader because I have seen some edits of him and his girl and his girl. Padme is played by Natalie Portman who i recognize because of the Thor movies. I clocked it immediately when she switched places with the other girl(but they did choose an actress that has very similar features to her). - Senorita Terror

first watched this movie during covid times, phantom menance was my least favorite of the prewuals then and i feel the same about it now. espeiclaly for a first time star wars watcher, its just so slow and hard to understand the econmony and the factions or the impeding war youre dumped in to. howveer i love just about everything else about the movie, the set desisgn is amazing, the acting is great, the characters are fantastic and overall the plot is still very enjoyable. the fight between qui-gon/kenobi vs maul is undoubtabley one of the most famous in the entire series and one of my favorites, even though i think its dumb that maul survived.

The Drama

Watched this at the movies with my husband and it was soooo gooood. I had watched the trailer befor so I had an idea of what it was going to be. Thought this was going to be a movie where Emma would go crazy at the end and kill everyone. I love that its so much more deeper than you would have thought. Its a movie about how two people struggle to make things work even though the circumstances are bad but they try to because they truly love eachother. I do think that it was dramatic for Charlie to freak out the way he did. And him cheating on her was crazy buuuuutttt he was feeling completely lost and alone and confused but STILL crazy MY man would NEVER do that. Anyways I wonder if it was intentional to choose Zendeya a mixed woman to play this role. I usually tend to look for racial commentary in movies alot because its interesting to see it that way to me personally. In the scene where emma confesses theres to people of color and two white people. It all started when that annoying ass bitch RACHEL pressures her hsuband to open up about somethign he has never wanted to share whcih is crazy to me. Now when emma confessed rachel freaks the fuck out and her husband seems a little bit more calmer than her idk if thats because hes black and he has at least a little empathy for poc people like him but I see thsi through out the movie as well he seems the one trying to calm her down isntead of adding more to the fire. Charlie didnt believe her at first not until she saw rachel freak out the her started to freak out. Could this be a commentary on how Black people even though they have changed for the better and regret the decsiosn they made in the past, will always be treated more harshly or that white people will always think they are still a little violent no matter how much theyve changed? Do black people have to be held at a different standard than white people who will get more understanding than them? Why did no one react the way rachel did to emma when she admitted she locked a special needs kid in a shed AND left him there??? Also charlie is introduced as a creep to me the way he was staring at emma and lied about reading the book although he was very sweet after getting to know eachother and they did end up being very compatible. But i say this because I dont often see people talk about the way they met alot and the way he approuched her because I think that it can be shoved off as cute or innocent since hes a white man. But had it been a black man would there had been different reactions? I dont know I guess what im trying to say is how having emma be a black woman instead of a white woman could add so much more depth to the movie even if it wasnt intended. And idk maybe it was inteded by the casting directior because the name emma is a common white girl name not a comman black girl name. idkidkidk just saying

blah blah blah.
